The American River

If we're not at Grandma's pool, one of our new favorite places to explore nearby is the American River. We found a shoreline that is still and not very crowded. It reminds me of Huckleberry Finn and what I envision for us wonderful talks in the cool mornings and evenings of summertime. It is so fun and peaceful here and we get to see an occasional boat pass by and then wait for the waves to come in the wake of the boat. London started dancing as she heard the music from a radio on one of the boats carry across the river.

The last time we came was in February and we just tossed rocks into the water from the shore. We had the same plan this time but the weather was so nice and the water so warm that we started rolling up our pants and wading into the water. Soon our jeans and khakis were soaked and the girls were splashing along in their diapers. Blake just got soaked and didn't mind it one bit. His only guideline was to not wade in past his waist. He kept looking down to make sure his waist was still above water. We saw a school of minnows and a fish jump, and skipped stones on the water. We played with our sticks, writing our names in the water and trying to knock posts of sticks over with our small rocks. Next time we're bringing our swimsuits!

I love this picture of Robert and Grace -- He looks like he's about to defend her from something!
