Here is our first layer of the backyard design. The next layer will be the plants. I couldn't fit the side courtyard under the scanner, but it has a mounded tree as the basic feature, with the kids' hand prints underneath. We are going to have one fruit tree for each of the children in the backyard that will be theirs. These heritage trees are owed to Nana and Grandad's ideas.
After talking with 5 backyard designers we learned just how expensive putting a backyard in will be. We learned that concrete is the bulk of the expense, so we decided not to put sidewalks connecting from the side yards to the back yard, but just have stepping stones. Stepping stones can be removed several years down the road and replaced with a walkway, if we choose.
I am really excited about the shapes and design of the plan and am especially looking forward to the garden in the upper right corner. Our new deadline is January 8th. I'll keep updating pictures as we have them!
