I started typing this post in mid-March and it has been saved as a draft for a while. I'm going to try to get caught up and post a few updates about our lives tonight!
This is the third time I've posted some of Blake's comical thoughts. Please excuse the frequency as I am using our website as a Mommy journal. I just am so afraid these moments will become less-frequent as Blake grows up! This will probably be a really long post so I don't forget these moments through the years. Feel free to get comfy and read or skim them if you have to run!
When Robbie took Blake and Grace to see his grandparents, I stayed home because of a history of contractions on long freeway trips later in pregnancy. Just before they were due to arrive home, I ran an errand to the library to drop off a few books. I was contemplating parking in the handicapped parking spot right in front of the library since the lot was deserted and I'd only be running up to the drop box for 10 seconds or so. At the last moment I decided against it and parked in a spot along the side of the parking lot.
My last-second turn of the wheel resulted in me driving the Civic's front left tire up onto the curb. It was a pretty aggressive curb attack and caused a bad mark on the tire and a bent wheel cover. After calling Robbie to check in with him about how the last leg of the trip home with the kids was going, I apologized for crashing into the curb and the new tire or alignment that we may need as a result.
(I also hit a curb on the way to pick Robbie up from the airport, resulting in a flat tire the day that he planned to surprise me by proposing. I was super nervous/excited because we hadn't seen each other for two months, during Spring Term at BYU. We changed the flat tire on the way to the Temple grounds.)
I was telling Blake about what happened that evening at the library a few days later when we were following Robbie in the van on the way to get his alignment and tire checked.
Blake: You were stuck up on the curb?
Me: Yes, I had to back up to get down off of the curb.
Blake: You should have just waited for the curb to move so you wouldn't have to back up.
Me: (Laughing) Blake, the curb would not move unless we had an earthquake or something substantial like that to move it.
Blake: You should have waited for an earthquake.
Me: I would have been waiting a long time. You would have come home with Daddy and said, "Where's Mom?"
Blake: And I would say, "She's waiting on the curb for an earthquake. We should go get her."
----------
Blake: I want to go swimming.
Me: It's too cold outside.
Blake: I want to go swimming in the baptismal font.
Me: Oh, because it has water in it? We could swim in anything with a lot of water in it, huh? What about the water tower? Could we go swimming in there?
Blake: No because we would get stuck. There's no way to get in or out. I would tell the guy, "Hey! Open the door so I can get in and out!"
-----------
Blake has gummy bear vitamins and loves them. He's very knowledgeable about how he only gets two per day. If he eats too many of them, we've told him, he would get sick.
Mom: I kind of have a little headache.
Blake: It's because you ate too many bears.
------------
Grace (after eating a package of fruit snacks in the car): Moi! (More)
Just about all of our snacks are a one-per-day item for the kids. We've said if you eat too many, it's not good for your body and you could get sick.
Blake: No, Mammies, if you eat more you'll get sick like this: "Cough".
------------
Blake: I want the baby to come out of your tummy today.
Me: She is not done cooking yet.
Blake: Nooo! She's not cooking!
Me: She cooks for 9 months in my tummy! She is not done getting big and strong yet, and is not ready to come out.
Blake: Was I like this in your tummy? (touches his feet to his head in the pike position)
Me: (Laughing) How did you know? (He was exactly in that position, breached/head up until he was born.) Yes you were!
Blake: I was like, "Oooh! Food!" and then I ate the food and then I went back to sleep. Then I pooped out the good snacks and pooped in the good snacks.
------------
We live very close to a fire station and see the fire engine go by several times a day. About half of the time the driver will honk the horn loudly and turn on the siren as they drive by our living room window.
One afternoon while Grace was taking a nap:
(Fire truck drives by, honks and turns on siren)
Blake: Gentleman, please!
I should note that he picked up this phrase from Robbie who has said, "Gentleman, please!" or "Brethren, please!" when the sirens come on right by our window after Grace is asleep in the evening and Blake is still up.
We had a fun experience at the grocery store a couple of days ago. I was looking at my list in the dairy section and three firefighters on their break walked up and offered stickers to Blake and Grace. I asked them what station they worked at and they indicated it was the one right by our house. After 9 months of seeing them drive by every day, we finally met them! They asked if they ever disturb our children and I said, "No, they sleep right through it," which they have, since about the first month or two of living here. I said that we often tell Blake, "They're going to help the kids," and thanked them for all of the service they give.
-----------
Robbie: (After Blake offered the prayer at dinner): Blake, you forgot to bless the food.
Blake: No, I said it!
Robbie: I didn't hear it, could you please offer the prayer again?
Blake: "Heavenly Father, we're sorry that Daddy didn't hear me bless the food."
(I peeked at Robbie trying to stifle a muffled laugh.)
Me, after the prayer: Whoa.
Robbie: We're in trouble for the teenage years. Did you hear him bless the food?
Me: I didn't hear it, either.
Robbie: Wow. OK, let's eat.
-------------
Blake: I want to baptize Mammies.
Me: You won't be old enough. You'll only be 10.
Blake: I can get baptized for the dead in the Temple when I'm 12. I'm going to call the Temple and say, "Don't worry, dead, I'm going to help you!"

I love those little conversations. I have books for each of the kids I keep with just little things they say like that and they love looking back at them. So much fun!
Too Cute!!! What a sharp mind he has! I was laughing pretty hard at the prayer one---pretty clever!
We love the way Blake thinks. We laughed our heads off... especially the prayer one. Wow.
