Anniversary Lake

Happy Sixth Anniversary, Mi Vida!

To celebrate, Robbie and I stopped and got a couple of sandwiches and then hiked up to a small lake at the top of a hill in Fairfield. After having told him how much I would love to go hiking with him sometime, and remembering his Half Dome hike with his brothers last summer, I was so excited to go for a hike together and was resolved be a fabulous hiker. It was really fun and I was only a little sore the next couple of days! We had a great time watching the sun start to descend as we hiked up over a valley that overlooks Fairfield.

As we came to the top of the hill we saw a sign that said "No Swimming," posted right by a dry lake. We thought the lake from Robbie's childhood memories must have dried up. But we hiked up a little farther and we found a beautiful blue lake. We named it anniversary lake. It was guarded by two strong-willed geese who must have thought we were after their nest. They were hissing as they approached and were not scared by Robbie's quacking loudly at them or waving a foot in their direction. They finally waited for us to pass as we tip toed around to the other side of the lake.

Robbie had packed two surprises in his backpack: Our wedding album and a book of emails that he had bound from when we were dating. It was wonderful to sit there with him and see the pictures from the happiest day, up until that point, of our lives.

I love you, handsome. Here's to a thousand more.
