A couple of years ago Robbie learned about an annual swimming event called "Sharkfest" which is held in San Francisco each summer. The race course consists of a 1.5 mile open water swim from Alcatraz to the closest shore. He was so excited about this event and signed up to swim in the 2008 swim. Soon after that, we found out we would be having a baby in April and he decided he would rather be rocking her to sleep than swimming training laps.
So on Saturday, June 28th, Robert Sanders received a small "---" next to his Sharkfest time. In my book he received first place. However, after a couple of months of training this summer, on August 19th, Robbie hit his all-time record: 106 continuous laps, in the lap pool where he exercises, surpassing the distance requirement for the Alcatraz Swim. Now he knows he could make it to shore, if he could overcome the cold temperature and choppiness of the water. Maybe with a wife and three kids on the shore screaming cheers for him. Congratulations, handsome! This video was taken at our Sanders Family Reunion a couple of weeks ago when he and brothers and dad were imitating the Michael Phelps relay.
